About AlaskAcross and This Site

This is an unofficial “fan” site about AlaskAcross, an event founded by Mark Ross that takes place annually in interior Alaska. The purpose of this site is to help spread the word to potential participants and also serve as a resource that points to all the public information available about the event.

I fully support Mark’s philosophy of not posting routes. A huge part of the experience for me is the planning process, and I think participants should be allowed to find their own way. That said, there is a lot of published information about events, and this site points to that information. That includes maps of participants’ actual routes; since you can find them anyway, there’s no point in trying to hide them. Personally, I intend to do my part to maintain the mystique of the event by avoiding posting my own GPS tracks, and I’ll try to obscure some of the details in any of my written accounts.

I have included participants mentioned in published finisher sheets and articles. If you don’t want to be mentioned, reach out. Likewise, if you have a blog or other site you want linked to your name, I can add it. (Starting off, I have only included links to participants’ blogs if they’ve posted about past AlaskAcross events and I’ve included those posts/articles in the media links for each year.)

Really, if you have any event and/or participant information to add, remove, or change, contact me. You can reach me by emailing the administrator at AlaskAcross.com. You’ll have to use my first name, though. I trust humans will be able to figure out what I’m saying.

I will start posting event-related announcements when I receive them, generally in late April or early May and then in mid-June to July. You’ll find these on the Posts page. You can check that page if you aren’t on Mark’s mailing list and want to stay up to date.
